Medical leaves of absence FAQs
In this article:
Who can enter a medical leave of absence?
This data is available to Skilled Nursing Facilities that manually enter data into Bamboo Health and facilities integrated with PointClickCare (PCC) or MatrixCare. Work is underway to extend this capability to the rest of our automated SNF community.
What is a medical leave of absence?
A medical leave of absence (Medical LOA or MLOA) is when a patient has left a SNF for a temporary, medical elsewhere, typically at a hospital and is expected to return to the SNF.
When should a SNF enter medical leave of absence data?
These events should be used whenever a patient leaves the SNF to receive care at another facility, even if the patient is expected to return the same day. These events should not be used when a patient leaves the SNF for a personal or familial reason.
What about bed holds?
Bed holds are a type of medical leave of absence, which are intended to represent those bed hold events.
What does the LOS column in my export mean?
LOS stands for length of stay and is defined as the patient’s entire visit duration minus the number of days for which they were on a medical LOA.
How can I find my patients that are on a medical LOA?
If you have not received a subsequent Ping for this patient, you can find them by filtering current status to medical LOA.
